This is where it all started. Ladies Circle India was born in Coimbatore as Coimbatore Ladies Circle-1. In the last couple of months, I had visited so many circles…numbers that I now forget, but visiting the projects of CLC-1, was a privilege, as well as exciting. Though I was already missing Coonor’s weather, I was ready to sweat it out in the heat. Escorted by Cr.Gauri, I set off to visit a Balwadi in Nagarajapuram. Built by CLC-1 in 2000, the Balwadi has 25 children at a point of time and up to 125 through various time slots and complimentary centers. Adopted as a long-term project, the Circle conducts a health camp, in collaboration with Pelameedu Samanaidu Govindaswami Health Center) every month, the expenses (Rs 15000 per year) of which are borne by the Ladies Circle.
The circle mission is to assist in the development and improving existing school facilities like classrooms, toilet blocks, drinking water, computer tables, mats, play equipment, cooking utensils, kitchen blocks and library. With 40 years behind them, the circle can boast of many of these projects. It also goes to show that it takes time and commitment to fulfil these dreams, some of which take years. It started with a bus stop and then spread to many other projects. Thank you Ladies for showing me these wonderful projects!
